De Beers will use Blockchain to control the origin of diamonds

The world’s largest diamond producer, De Beers, intends to use Blockchain technology to track the history of precious stones from production to sale. In this way, the company wants to give its customers guarantees that diamonds are not mined in conflict zones, where revenues from their sale can go to escalate violence.

The project was launched in January 2018 after several months of research. In the future, the technology, which is still complementary to existing monitoring methods, can be used not only in the gemstone industry, but also to control the extraction of other minerals.
